Product Details

Working Principle

The sample is completely combusted at high temperature in the combustion furnace using a high-performance oxidation catalyst, decomposing it into carbon dioxide and water vapor. The water vapor is removed after cooling in a condenser, and the carbon dioxide is measured by a nondispersive infrared (NDIR) detector to determine the total carbon (TC) content of the sample. Separately, the inorganic carbon in the sample is decomposed into carbon dioxide and water vapor by an acid reagent; the water vapor is removed after cooling in a condenser, and the carbon dioxide is measured by an NDIR detector to determine the total inorganic carbon (TIC) content. The total organic carbon (TOC) is then calculated as TOC = TC – TIC.
